This past week we unexpectedly had heavy down pours and thunderstorms. Here is a shout out to all the farmers who jumped in to repair the gravel roads in no time.

And as the fields are turning into an evergreen pasture on the farm and alongside the Spitskop gravel road we are reminded every day now: winter is coming!

And what is not to love about a cosy inside fire and a glass of red wine? 😊😊

A 𝙙𝙖𝙮𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙥 to De Hoop Nature R

A 𝙙𝙖𝙮𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙥 to De Hoop Nature Reserve from @dieblouhuis promises to be a great outing!

It is a mere 20km drive to get there and 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙖 𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙙𝙤 compiled by a local:

• Snorkelling of exploring the 𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙛𝙚 in the rock pools at low tide. You do not have to wear glasses or have gear, you'll also see them from the surface. No boating or fishing is permitted which makes it a safe spot for breeding.

• Bring your own bicycle or pack hiking shoes and enjoy the 𝙛𝙖𝙪𝙣𝙖 and 𝙛𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙖 on the scenic routes where cars aren't allowed to drive.

• Grab a good meal at @thefigtree.restaurant and take a dip in the pool overlooking the lovely "𝙡𝙖𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙣" at the main camp. There is also now a beach bar at Koppie Alleen (the beach part).

• Pack sufficient fluids and 𝙝𝙞𝙠𝙚 the last day of the Whale Trail or the unspoilt white dunes.

• Beach please! Having a 𝙥𝙞𝙘𝙣𝙞𝙘 on the 𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝 at Koppie Alleen and taking a 𝙨𝙬𝙞𝙢 always consumes more time than planned because you will never want to leave. Remember to reapply sunscreen 😎

• If you want to see about 15+ 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙚𝙨 at a blink, De Hoop is the venue from July untill the beginning of November. It is a safe place for them to nurture their babies.

• Potberg also offers two hiking trails. The vulture project makes it an excellent option for 𝙗𝙞𝙧𝙙𝙬𝙖𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨.
