Apart from being a gem of restau- rants and hot water mineral springs, Montagu is well-known for its sundried fruits. See if you can stop at Cape Dry Fruits factory shop for some bargain snacks. If you exit Bath street towards the Koo you will find it on your right.
Enjoy a rather interesting stop at Diesel & Creme in Barrydale for some gourmet milkshakes. We rather eat at some other restaurants such as Barrydale Cellar and have a milkshake instead of pudding.
Outside Barrydale lies Ronnie’s Sex Shop (Karoo pub) – another interesting stop (Barrydale can be full of surprises). Ronnie’s friends played a trick of him adding the “sex” but actually put him on the map!
Bon Courage has great ports and you have the option to get a pic- nic and go on a boat trip at Viljoens- drift winery.Van Loveren offers a wide variety of food and wine pairing op- tions. Their Christina’s restaurant is also recommendable.
De Wetshof Wine Estate is wellknown for their great Chardon- nay’s. Enjoy a propper, personal wine tasting if you are serious about wine and learn something. The tasting may cost something.
If you are heading back to the R62 be sure to stop at Excelsior winery where you can blend, bottle and lable your own wine. Be sure not to miss out on this personal ex- perience. Apart from the memory, it is also a great gift to take home under
R100.
According to some people Platform62 in Ashton is also a great pitstop to do a variety of tastings and grab a quick bite.
On your way to Swellen- dam you can taste and stock up on cheese at La Montanara Cheesery.
Have lunch and good wine under the pecan nut trees at Jan Harmsgat Wine Estate (about 15km before Swellendam).
